Evangeline Lilly Teases Her Elvish Skills From Peter Jackson's "The Hobbit"
Want to brush up on you on your Elvish, then why not learn from the beast. While walking the Real Steel red carpet event, Lost actress Evangeline Lilly talked about what it is like to be shooting The Hobbit in New Zealand. She discussed her new role as the newly developed character Tauriel for the new Peter Jackson movie and that she has been working with a “dialect coach, motion coach, language coach, stunt coach” in order to learn the new language
“I believe [Tauriel] is truly authentic, because Tolkien refers to the Woodland elves. He just doesn’t talk about who they are specifically… [Jackson, Walsh, and Boyens] know that world so well. They are not going to create a character that’s not true to Tolkien’s world.”
While some may miss Liv Tyler as Arewn Undómiel, I think Tauriel is a great transition to introducing a new female character. Lily even indulged in some Elvish for the Access Hollywood cameras.
As a fan of the books and Peter Jackson's films. I look forward to His interpretation of the story time line from the casting out of the Necromancer from Dol Guldur, to Bilbo's journey with the Dwarves and Gandalfs popping in and out of the story.
Huge fan of The Hobbit since I read it first in the early 70s… hated Lost. There were many many differences between the LOTR books & the movies but they were great. Heck, Arwen had one line in the book and Jackson made her a much larger character. “The cells are empty” Sounds like Jackson has beefed up a part of ‘The Hobbit’ that always seemed to me a little light in story detail. I won’t give too much away in case someone hasn’t read the book (hard to believe). But Bilbo did just ‘hang out’ for weeks in the palace of the Wood Elf King before they all quietly floated away.

After Lost began, I thought the gorgeous and talented Evangeline Lilly had a promising career ahead of her and would become a bigger star but she has done so little in the last seven years. I hope she’ll have a career renaissance with Real Steel and The Hobbit films and do more mainstream movies from now on. Good for her to keep landing such high profile roles. She deserves it. It’s an exceptional performance by her in Real Steel, just wonderful.
